An Interview With Teddric Matthews, “Rhea” on Grits!

Teddric Matthews talks about “Rhea”, and being the “mother” of the “Grits” family

We sat down to talk with Teddric Matthews @teddricmatthews to find out more about his character “Rhea” on “Grits”

So tell us about Rhea

Rhea is a 40-year-old black woman in the South, and she wants nothing more than to just fall in love and to have her children be in love and, you know, secure and safe and happy. Basically, she just wants happiness.

What’s the story “Grits” about?

The story is about my crazy dysfunctional, loving, supportive family, like, and what we deal with, you know, on a day-to-day basis. You know, it’s about our job. It’s about our drama. It’s about our community. It’s about our love. It’s about our support. It’s about everything. It’s, it’s wonderful.

What’s your favorite alcoholic drink?

My favorite alcoholic drink is a double crown on the rocks because it’s clean, it’s refreshing. It’s good. It does its job. It’s mm-hmm, a make it a double entendre.

What do you want viewers to take away from “Grits”?

I hope that folks will understand that our lives, you know, generally put us in a place where we’re ostracized from our family. So we really do have to, you know, create our own families. And “Grits” is just about that. “Grits” is about family and the family that we, we are charged and challenged to create. And, you know, the love that we get out of doing it.

What has being part of “Grits” been like for you?

This has probably been one of the best experiences of my life, like legit, meeting everyone and, you know, just hearing their story about, you know, how they, how they grew up and you know, how, what it’s like to be, you know, to live in their part of the country and, you know, basically experienced similar things that I have in my part of the country, but, you know, different, I guess it’s, it’s just been really wonderful, you know, loving on everybody. Y’all always so excited to see one another and, you know, to work with one another and watch each other grow. That’s probably the best part, you know, seeing the growth from everyone, coming from, you know, having no experience in acting and then becoming the performer that they are today. So it’s, it’s really exciting. Make sure you tune in and see all of the mess, the drama, the love, and everything else that we have going on. Tune in.
